Gibson SG Standard – 1980
2750 €
For sale: a 1980 Gibson SG Standard, in all-original condition, complete with its iconic vintage Gibson Chainsaw case.
This is a particularly interesting piece of Gibson history. The 1980 production year represents a distinctive period in the history of the SG, and well-preserved examples from the early 1980s are becoming increasingly difficult to find in original condition.
The guitar is completely stock in terms of its original specifications and has never undergone any permanent modifications. It is currently fitted with Suhr Doug Aldrich humbuckers, which deliver an outstanding high-gain tone with plenty of power, clarity, and punch.
The best part is that the original Gibson pickups are included with the guitar, allowing the new owner to return it to its original configuration at any time. The pickup swap involved no irreversible modifications, so the guitar has retained its originality from a collector’s perspective.
The package also includes the original, legendary Gibson Chainsaw case, which has become a highly collectible vintage accessory in its own right. Used by Gibson from the late 1970s into the early 1980s, this distinctive hard case has become an iconic part of the era, and having the original case with a vintage SG adds considerable value and completeness to the package.
The SG’s characteristic thin mahogany body, excellent upper-fret access thanks to its double-cutaway design, and outstanding sustain make it one of Gibson’s most distinctive guitars. This particular example also comes from a fascinating period in Gibson’s history, with a character and feel of its own that is increasingly appreciated by vintage guitar enthusiasts.
A rare opportunity to own a 45+ year-old Gibson that is becoming increasingly desirable among collectors year after year.
